I will discuss differences and some similarities between the two social media apps.
Differences below
Notification
The forms of notification between Facebook and WeChat are different. Facebook has diverse methods to notify users. Facebook can tell users they received a message via email, Facebook application self, text message, and mobile phone. In contrast, WeChat only can notify users by the notification system in cellphones. In addition, Facebook can push friends’ activity, birthdays, likes, and comments to notification interfaces of cellphones. But WeChat can do none of them. Sometimes, however, people don't need that much bothering in their life. In conclusion, if you were the person who wanted to have more silent moments, you’d better join WeChat camp.
Privacy
Both of these two applications have strong privacy protections. But I personally prefer WeChat privacy protection. First of all, if some person was not on your WeChat friends list, the person would not be able to see your comments on your mutual friends who were in the person’s friends list too. In other words, if you see Lily comment on a post of the friend you added, it means the friend is the mutual friend of you and Lily. To a large extent, it could prevent users’ secret comments from being leaked by accident. However, on facebook timeline, people’s posts are public unless you alter privacy settings; you have to change audience from “public” to “friends” if you want to avoid sharing secrets unintentionally. Besides, the most embarrassing thing is that facebook timeline will tell you who comment on something whatever it is private or not. Indeed, you can block some people from seeing these. Overall, if you are the very one who wants more private space, choose WeChat.
The way to find friends
Actually, both can find nearby friends by locating. And users accounts are discovered by phone contacts. WeChat accounts can't be found by email, but Facebook can. Pressing “Discover” at the bottom bar, you can see “Shake” which is for finding a random individual who shakes cellphones at the same time with another individual. It may be designed for people believing that coincidence is a good thing and that strangeness doesn't matter. Furthermore, I think users are more likely to find more friends they like in facebook because users’ profiles have more chances to be exploded on timeline and friend lists of following friends. To conclude, if you wanted to discover more friends by a novel way, I would recommend you to use WeChat to shake your phones.
Small features
WeChat has not only WeChat Run (mentioned in the previous blog) but also other small features. It has voice call and video call. They must be supported by network. Similarly, Facebook Messenger has the similar things. Moreover, there is the feature, called WeChat Out, which makes calling actual phone numbers come true via WeChat. Additionally, WeChat has language translation functions. It supports the majority of languages in the world; Facebook Messenger does not have this.
Group Video Call

Similarities
Undoubtedly, both of these two social media apps are available in plenty of countries. And they support different languages. In addition, they can be installed in different devices and work well. Besides, they both have voice call and video call which must be supported by network.
Conclusion
WeChat and Facebook actually target different user groups. Former is created for people who like sharing things in public, desire attracting strangers by distinct personal ideas, and expect information spreading fast. Conversely, WeChat is designed for a group that likes sharing things in the relatively fixed circle of life and that needs more non-shared room with friends. Therefore, if sometimes you don't want to be exposed in the complex society, you deserve installing a WeChat app on your device.
